How to make the most of 2024
Three frameworks to building good habits and sticking with them
Read Time: 6 min
Hi networkers,
It’s barely 1 week into 2024 and people are already calling it a filler year.
But can you blame them? We’re not getting GTA 6 or the next Avatar movie until 2025!
Regardless, there’s still plenty to do this year. Like setting goals and actually sticking to them for personal growth.
And that’s what today’s article will be. Let’s talk about 3 methodologies that’s worked for me in developing lasting habits.
🏁 Here’s the route for this week’s run:

TOPIC
Building Good Habits
Ah yes the age-old question, how do you build a habit?
Because if there’s anything more common than making New Year resolutions, it’s giving up the next month.
Take going to the gym for example. You make these fitness goals with the achievement in mind.
“I want 6 pack abs”
“I want to lose X amount of weight”
“I want to gain X amount of muscle”
See that’s great and all, but have you asked yourself “Do I want to do what it takes to get there?”
Are you willing to wake up at X time for 3 days every week and put in 60 min of hard work and then eat X amount of calories and sleep for X hours and…
You get my point.
The #1 issue people make is they focus on the outcome and forget about the journey, myself included.
So last year, I learned 3 frameworks to develop habits I’ve kept to this day. Like going to the gym consistently, and writing articles every week.
The Three Frameworks
💡 Framework #1: Habits aren’t goals
My first big realization was the nature of habits. They’re lifestyles, and as such, they don’t have end goals.
Treat goals as checkpoints to keep yourself accountable and nothing more.
💡 Framework #2: Make the habit easy and fun
It doesn’t matter what your resolution is. The only way you’ll stick to it is if it’s easy and you enjoy it.
Here’s an example, want to read 1 book a month?
Make it easy: Baby steps, start by reading just 1 page a day. If you can maintain that, move up to 3 pages, then 5, etc.
Make it fun: It doesn’t have to be a self-help book. Into sci-fi or fantasy? Read based on your interests first.
💡 Framework #3: Identify your anti-goals
Anti-goals were something I came across on LinkedIn and profoundly agree with.
Sometimes, we can get TOO absorbed into our resolutions and end up sacrificing other areas of our lives.
For example, maybe your goal is to build a successful online store, but you become so focused on it that you lose sleep and eat less.
So when making your goals, also make a list of priorities that you would refuse to give up. This will help prevent burnout.
Closing
To summarize.
Set goals as milestones
Make the process easy & fun
Establish your anti-goals.
If you’ve been struggling with a resolution, try doing these 3 things and you should see an improvement!
TIP/TOOL OF THE WEEK
My Favorite Quote
This week’s tip is my all-time favorite quote. It’s from a short story and goes like the following:
A boy and a horse are walking through a forest when the boy notices how dense the trees and bushes are.
Boy: “I can’t see my way through.”
Horse: “Can you see your next step?”
Boy: “Yes.”
Horse: “Just take that.”
Whenever I’m feeling overwhelmed about anything in life, I think back to this quote.
To me, it symbolizes the importance of being in the present, drowning out the noise, and taking things one step at a time.
Actionable Steps
For 2024, pick a resolution and achieve it by:
Treating your goals as milestones instead of results
Finding a way to make it both fun and easy
Identifying your anti-goals
Until next time, take it one step at a time! 👟
